Gold Award for GHS Grounds!
Spalding in Bloom Gold Medal Winners!
Gosberton House School have been awarded a Gold Medal for Best School Garden in the ‘Spalding in Bloom’ competition. At the end of June 2015, Graham Lamb, a judge from South Holland District Council was shown around the school grounds by the Deputy Headteacher, Miss Gregory and six pupils. He sent in a report detailing why the school was awarded so highly.
‘Many volunteers help to maintain the grounds together with the Site Manager, employed staff and families of the pupils. It is very well maintained with no litter and very few weeds. The children are always encouraged to be involved. There is a very good wildlife area with several bird boxes, feeders, places for hedgehogs and a bird hide. The children have grown good quality soft fruit, vegetables and herbs that they are able to pick themselves and take home. They also get the opportunity to cook their produce during the year. Most plants around the school are grown in containers and raised beds and include a large variety of both annuals and perennials. This year the school created 10 gardens with a theme of ‘Gardens Around The World’. Each garden represented a country with plants and arts and craft work. All of the work that has been achieved throughout the year is a great credit to all involved. The garden is a well used, wonderful resource of which the school should be very proud.’
